President and First Lady Obama are going to be talking with Oprah tonight on her Christmas special on Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special, airing Sunday, December 13, at 10 p.m. ET on the ABC Television Network. Be sure to tune it for this candid, yes pre-taped episode.
Today the President outlines the onward struggles to improve our 10% countries unemployment rate. This is down 0.2% as the President stated in this weekly address and it is a slow crawl out of the quagmire. As some would say at least we are moving forward but for some it isn’t fast enough. Should we expect things that have been so wrong for so long to get remedied quickly?
Yes I am a Star Trek fan but this post is not about that type of prime directive. Where there can be no interference with the internal development of pre-warp civilizations (civilizations where the technology for interstellar spaceflight has not been developed). The directive has evolved to include purposeful efforts to improve or change in any way the natural course of such a society, even if that change is well-intentioned and kept completely secret.
The Star Fleet Federation takes an oath to do no harm or interfere with other species. The understanding that I am addressing with the Prime Directive was present in the underlying tone of President Obama’s announcement last night about sending more troops to Afghanistan.
Yesterday Oct 13th marks a monumental time for the Obama administration, where the fifth and final committee to view the Bill has been approved.
The Financial Committee has passed the bill by a 14-9 vote it now moves to the Senate and House where there is still needed a vote to pass the final versions of legislation, before the process can go to conference committee, and onto another vote in both houses. The Finance Committee’s action today represents an enormous and critical step forward.
President Obama was prideful of this moment however he acknowledges that there is still much to go and persistence is needed.
No matter what your thoughts are about this Bill there is one thing for sure there are many people working not just giving lip service to make our health care something better. Could this have been the real idea behind this new administration to get us thinking and moving more ahead with a resolution in writing and accountability towards health care? Something to think about huh?
